چکیده

We present a s c heme for collimating large amplitude particles in the main linacs of a linear collider, by adding octupoles to the FODO lattice of the linac. The requirements on downstream collimation can in this way begreatly reduced or perhaps even eliminated. An analytic estimate of the amplitude at which particles are lost is made by calculating the separatrix of the fourth order resonance, and is in goodagreement with the results of simulations. Simulations of particle distributions in the beam core and halo are presnted, as well as alignment tolerances for the octupoles. Abstract. Measuring the top Yukawa coupling to a heavy Higgs Boson at future e(+)e(-) linear colliders.

If the Higgs boson mass is greater than 350 GeV, the top quark Yukawa coupling can be determined using the Higgs resonant contribution to t&tmacr; production from W+W- fusion at high energy e(+)e(-) linear colliders. We have evaluated the significance with which the signal of a Higgs decaying to t&tmacr; pairs could be observed at future e(+)e(-) colliders, with center of mass energies of 800 G...

Collimation Systems in the next Linear Collider

Experience indicates that beam collimation will be an essential element of the next generation e+elinear colliders. A proposal for using nonlinear lenses to drive beam tails to large amplitudes was presented in a previous paper [l]. Here we study the optimization of such systems including effects of wakefields and optical aberrations. Protection and design of the scrapers in these systems are d...

The TESLA Post-linac Collimation System

1 Introduction In high-energy physics colliders, the 'halo' particles surrounding the core of the beams would cause intolerable background in the physics detectors if not removed. Collima-tion systems consisting of mechanical 'spoilers' on the order of a radiation length are placed close to the beam and used to 'scrape' the halo particles off: the particles scattered by the spoilers are then co...

Further Developments in Dynamic Focusing

Dynamic focusing has been proposed[1] as a way to eliminate a conventional collimation and final focus system in linear colliders, and is a scheme that is more readily extended to colliders at several TeV center-of-mass energy. In this paper we examine several outstanding issues, in particular, the optimization of the lens and main beam parameters. Simulations of the lens-lens, lens-main, and m...

Conventional Collimation and Linac Protection

We describe linac protection and a conventional collimation system appqxiate for a next linear collider. The linac accelerating structure can be protected from “worst credible failures” by a system of sacrificial spoilers. For the collimation system we consider the effects of asverse wakefields and the transmission, heating, mechanical stress, and edge-scattering properties of scrapers. We requ...
